The Department of Public Safety (DPS) has shut down a search off Interstate 10 Friday morning after being unable to locate a suspected human smuggler.
At 6:05 a.m. on Friday there was an attempt to stop a Ford Expedition traveling westbound on Interstate 10 for speeding, said Bart Graves, spokesman for DPS. That driver did not pull over and instead exited the freeway.
DPS sent out an “attempt to locate” to local police and the vehicle was found in an industrial park on the Gila River Indian Community near Ahwatukee Foothills by Salt River Police.
Two suspects were found and taken into custody. Those two are suspected to be undocumented aliens. Two other suspects fled from the vehicle. One is a suspected undocumented alien, the other a suspected human smuggler, Graves said.
There was a weapon found in the car along with food.
One of the men taken into custody had apparently been assaulted by the suspected human smuggler and was treated for his injuries.
After an extensive search of the industrial park DPS shut down the search for the two outstanding suspects, though the suspected human smuggler is still being considered possibly armed with a small hand gun and dangerous.
There was no description of the suspects available.
