Jeff Thompson said that after looking at all the candidates for Congressional District 9, he decided he had to run as a businessman against a set of politicians.

Thompson, a Republican, was able to gather enough signatures to make it on the ballot in just a few short weeks. He says the biggest issue that needs to be dealt with is reducing the country’s debt.

“No one wants to make any cuts,” Thompson said. “All they want to do is tax, print money or borrow money. All three are bad and all three cost the American, hardworking public money to do that. If we want to make cuts to the debt we have to make cuts. The national debt grows by $4.1 billion a day.”

Thompson retired from the world of finance in 2005 at the age of 54. He has experience in finance, economics, health care and real estate. He has never held a public office before.

“I worked my rear-end off and I was successful,” he said. “When I retired I was burned out. My wife and I travelled. We’ve got a home in the mountains and we go up there. But with everything that has happened I think this is the most important election of my lifetime. I look at all the candidates and they are all politicians and none of them have really ever experienced success. I just thought that’s not the kind of person I wanted to vote for. I sure didn’t want to look back 10 years from now and think I had the wherewithal and I didn’t do anything.”

Thompson has been an Ahwatukee resident since 1981. He has been married to his wife, Jeanne, for 36 years and the couple has raised three children. To learn more about Thompson, visit JeffThompsonforcongress.com.

Thompson is the sixth Republican to announce a run for the office. His competitors include Travis Grantham, Vernon Parker, Wendy Rogers, Martin Sepulveda and Leah Campos Schandlbauer. Democrats running for the office include Andrei Cherny, David Schapira and Kyrsten Sinema.
