Phoenix is offering to "treecycle" old Christmas trees for free beginning Dec. 27, to turn what could become a home fire hazard into mulch for city parks.

The Public Works and Parks departments have partnered with A to Z Equipment Rental & Sales to offer free drop-off locations for cut Christmas trees until Jan. 9. The trees must be free of all decorations, tree stands, nails and metal stakes.

In Ahwatukee Foothills, trees can be taken to Mountain Vista Park on 50th Street north of Ray Road and at Desert Foothills Park, at Desert Foothills Parkway and Chandler Boulevard.

For more information, call (602) 262-7251 or visit phoenix.gov/publicworks.
