More than 200 live marijuana plants were found in an Ahwatukee Foothills home on June 8 after Phoenix police received a tip of a strange smell.

Police were informed of a strange smell near 48th Street and Elliot Road by a neighbor, according to Officer Ben Morris of the Phoenix Police Department. When the Phoenix Police Department Drug Enforcement Bureau arrived at the home they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

A search warrant was served on the home and officers found 231 live marijuana plants, approximately 3 pounds of marijuana, scale and packaging equipment, lighting, power supply, timers and vents with an estimated value of $10,000.

It was unknown if anyone was home when the search warrant was served, but the suspects were later identified.

"If people smell any suspicious chemical smells or other odors they can call Crime Stop and have an officer come out and check," Morris said. "That's how we find a lot of meth labs and drug houses is from neighborhood complaints and that's how this house was found."

Crime Stop can be reached at (602) 262-6151.
