Julie Fischer is calling her newest project a dream come true.

The former Kyrene School District employee and current Triple R Childcare teacher will open her own school, a two-year program for Pre-K and kindergarten students, with former coworker and Ahwatukee Foothills teacher Michelle Willis.

The two started talking about a project like this for some time, and it’s finally coming to fruition. The Magical Journey Learning Center will begin its full-time program in August, and they will host community members for an open house on Monday, March 26.

“It’s been a dream of ours, like we said to ourselves, ‘If we could do anything, here’s what we would do,’” Fischer said. “I contacted Michelle this year and said, ‘Do you want to do this?’ And she said she was definitely on board.”

The duo plan to offer two classrooms, with a maximum of 36 students total, one in Pre-K, which will be taught by Willis, and the other a kindergarten class, taught by Fischer. They will each have one aid to keep the ratio at nine-to-one or lower, which Fischer said is the most important factor.

“When you get kids in that small of a group, it’s amazing what they can do,” she said. “I’ll be the same teacher I always was but now I have that added support in a smaller classroom setting, it makes a huge different in a student’s learning.”

The school day, beginning in August, will go from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will include an enrichment class from 1 to 2 p.m. Spanish will be taught twice per week by an outside source.

The parent information meeting on March 26 will be at Triple R Childcare, 1442 E. Chandler Blvd., starting at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are not needed, but if someone needs childcare they should call ahead. To find out more, visit www.magicaljourneylc.org.
