Foothills Club West groundbreaking

Sue McHugh, Mick McLaughlin, Fred Kaiser, Paul Moroz and Chris Geist of the Foothills Club West Board broke ground on a new clubhouse on Friday, June 1.

It started with an idea seven years ago. But the new clubhouse for Foothills Club West is one step closer to happening after a ground-breaking ceremony on Friday.

After the idea for a clubhouse was conceived in 2005, the board approved it a year later. In 2011, the plans were finalized and the contractor, Nautilus General Contractors, was chosen.

The clubhouse will be open to all Foothills Club West residents. The plans call for a 3,100-square-foot facility, complete with a multipurpose room. The project started in earnest on Monday, and the organizers expect the project to be completed by September.

“It has been a long process and we are glad to see it finally come to fruition,” board president Paul Moroz said. “We’re definitely looking forward to getting the keys in September. We’re just excited.”

The new building will aid in a variety of community activities and events that Club West is happy to organize, said Brenda Brunette, Foothills Club West Community Association manager.

“There are a lot of business owners out here and we work with them for events that bring them together,” Brunette said. “One of our goals is to promote small businesses. This facility is a brand new amenity and it adds to the variety that residents already have.”

She also mentioned that one of the community’s most popular events, “Movie in the park,” could happen more frequently when the clubhouse is completed. Brunette said they could possibly host the event inside the multipurpose room during the hottest months of the year.
