Two people suffered broken limbs and had to be extracted from the crushed remains of their car after a head-on crash on Ray Road at Ranch Circle in Ahwatukee Foothills Thursday evening, according to Phoenix police.
The accident happened around 5 p.m., when the driver of a white Jeep Cherokee turned left and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, smashing into a small red Toyota sedan, said Sgt. Dennis Orender of the Phoenix Police Department. The Toyota then careened into a third vehicle - a silver Chevy Suburban, Orender said.
The collision tore the front grill and bumper off the Jeep, and left the Toyota in a crumpled pile. Orender said firefighters had to cut the Toyota's two occupants out of the wreck. The driver suffered broken legs, while his passenger suffered a broken arm, he said.
Occupants of the other two vehicles were treated for non-life threatening injuries, he said. The Jeep's driver was issued a citation for failure to yield, and impairment does not appear to be a factor in the collision, Orender said.
