The Phoenix City Council approved creating a simple and streamlined process that will allow residents and businesses to submit their building plans electronically.

Called the Electronic Plan Review program, the benefits include: eliminating paper plans and in-person trips to City Hall; speeding up plan review by allowing simultaneous review of plans; streamlining corrections by allowing city and design professionals to look at and discuss marked up plans simultaneously; allowing the ability to overlay and track multiple versions of plans as corrections and changes are made; and reducing the frequency of plans being lost or misplaced within departments.

Planning and Development staff have been researching electronic plan submittal, review, tracking and storage to help streamline the development process as one of the recommendations of the 123-member Development Process Ad Hoc Task Force, chaired by Councilman Tom Simplot, District 4, and Councilman Sal DiCiccio, District 6, that began meeting in December 2011.

The Electronic Plan Review program is expected to be available for customers in 18 months.
