Dr. Richard A. Mickle, 56, died Friday night as a result of injuries that occurred during an apparent head-on collision Nov. 29 at 48th Street and Morning Star in Ahwatukee.

Police believe Mickle was on his way to work Tuesday morning when his Honda Accord crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Dodge pickup truck, said Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department.

The truck tipped onto its side, but the driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Crump said it took first responders 35 to 40 minutes to remove Mickle from his car before he could be transported to a local hospital. He was admitted in critical condition last Tuesday and died Friday night.

Mickle was a board certified plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist practicing in Mesa.
