Some changes in the way the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce operates have caused current president and CEO Anne Gill to reconsider staying in her position.

Gill announced her resignation, effective Sept. 20, last month. The announcement caused the chamber’s board of directors to reevaluate the entire structure of the chamber, said Peter Menor, board chairman.

“How we approach the Ahwatukee business community, plan our premier events, market the chamber and support its members are all goals of the organization,” Menor said in a statement. “These are our core objectives and continued focus. After discussions amongst the board of directors a solution was found that with some simple changes the chamber would be able to continue to meet its goals. With some changes to the core structure and the role of the president we can serve our members even better moving forward.”

Gill said details of the changes are not final but that her schedule will be changing, to be more flexible. Gill announced her resignation because her family business is doing well and needed her help. More flexibility in her schedule will allow her to do both.

The chamber is also considering expanding its staff. Currently, the chamber has three full-time employees and a team of volunteers who put on chamber events.

“We’re going to continue to do events and have services for our members,” Gill said. “Those will not be affected. We’re going to use more technology to be more efficient.”

With the simple changes Gill is confident it will be possible for her to be completely committed to both roles.

Local leaders were please with Gill’s decision to stay with the Ahwatukee chamber.

“I’m not sure what the issues were but they were apparently resolved and I think that’s terrific,” said Sen. John McComish. “The chamber is off to a good year and now all that momentum can continue.”

Gill has been credited with much of the chamber’s success in the past two years. She has led the chamber to be in good financial standing and was instrumental in getting the chamber’s charity up and running.

“Anne has led the chamber through difficult times and made it one of the most active chambers in the state,” said City Councilman Sal DiCiccio. “Her continued service as chamber president will be a huge benefit to our community.”

Gill took over the chamber after former president, Terri Kimble, left after two years to head the Chandler Chamber of Commerce.

“The board is pleased that she will be staying,” Menor said. “Her experience, leadership and work ethic have aided in the chamber’s success during the past two years. To be able to positively affect how we aid the business community and keep the talent we have is a win for the business community and a big win for the chamber.”
