South Mountian should not be used for Urban Ssprawl. Parkway smaekway, /This is Maricopa County and no place is safe. The Rt 51 was a Parkway, remember they put a Traffic Light at Thomas Rd. There are investors who will change what was a good place to live. Slow growth for that land is best. Toll Roads are the next money maker and Hotels out there will make it best to open Casinos in Phoenix and Flagstaff. Save our cities.
ADOT should concentrate on moving traffic not cities. Extending Rt. 202 will do little to relieve today's traffic problems, but cross country truckers in particular on Rt. I -8 to an improved Rt. 85 north to Buckeye then west on RT 1-10, that would remove a source of pollution and congestion.
Cross country traffic that is going to south California now can by pass Phoenix on Route I-8, Lets encourage the same for the Los Angles areas. Another north south road or rail may play a part in the future. Rt. I-10 from I-60 through downtown Phoenix is our problem. Some want to use that congestion as an excuse for Toll Roads.
Extending Loop 202 will not relieve traffic, create more Urban Sprawl, more traffic to and from a virgin area and benefit mostly developers and casinos. Big cross-country trucks should nbe restricted from using north or south of South Mountain Park. An extension of Rt. 60 over and beyond Rt. I-10 along Baseline would relieve the problem. That is an area with new close in town neighborhoods. Reduced traffic as well as more efficient use of mass transit. Now and as planned by ADOT most traffic has to go central Phoenix to go west. That traffic problem will be increased over the years by a 22mile-limited access road south of South Mountain Park.
