Ten years in business has taught Greg and Lorraine Tornga that the key to running a good glass company is having reliable employees and great service.
Greg and Lorraine started up Reliable Glass out of their Ahwatukee Foothills home after Greg was laid off in 2001 from a dot-com start-up company. They’d heard glass was a good business and they were interested in running something on their own that would fit Lorraine’s sales background and Greg’s management skills.
They fit three desks into a spare bedroom and set up a business phone and fax line. They offered customers free mobile service and subcontracted the work until they were able to hire their own technician and buy their own van.
Now, 10 years later the company has more than 20 employees, some of whom have been with them for at least five years.
“We attribute our success to the employees we have,” Greg said. “They do such a good job. There’s no way we’re going to have a successful company unless we have successful people that are doing the right thing with quality and service, and taking care of the customer.”
The Torngas strive to attract the best employees with good pay, benefits, and a positive work environment. They’ve found that by hiring people who are experienced and plan on making a career out of the glass business are able to provide the best service possible.
“There’s a lot of competition out there and everyone has their own business approach,” Greg said. “Our mission is to be the best. We really strive to make a good impression with service and quality. We know it’s tough to find good service these days. When you do a good job with service it makes a lasting impression.”
Over the years the couple says their business has allowed them the flexibility they needed to be involved with their three sons’ lives. They’ve also made many great friends through their business interactions.
The Torngas say their goal for the future is to build their business through social media or email marketing, and to build the commercial and residential side of their business as well.
