Body by Design has moved to a new Ahwatukee Foothills location to offer more space, child care, and additional networking to its personal training clients.

Body by Design Personal Training Studio has been in Ahwatukee at Chandler Boulevard and Desert Foothills Parkway since 2006. Stephanie Sandoval Monge, co-owner of the studio, said in that location as they grew they were forced to tear down the wall of the child care center to create more space for training. When she herself could no longer workout at her own studio because they needed a sitter to watch the kids, they knew it was time to move.

Now the new space at 4206 E. Chandler Blvd. has a “Busy Bodies by Design” childcare, more space for workouts and a comfortable lobby where clients can connect with each other. The owners worked with a stylist to create a lobby with comfortable leather chairs where clients can linger after their workout to network with each other or post their business cards.

“We feel like we’re asking people to help us out as a small business and tell your friends about us, but we realized we’re probably not even practicing what we’re asking people to do for us,” Monge said. “We were finding that people in the morning may have a kid and never know that we have a pediatric dentist coming in the afternoon or we have an insurance guy coming in the evening and people in the morning don’t know. If you don’t run in circles with them then you’ll never know. We wanted to create a hub for networking among the clients and the community as well.”

Also in the new location Monge said there are more machines than before, two locker rooms with showers, and seven individual cardio stations.

The main reason for the new location was growth. The secret to their success, Monge said, is her husband Carlos’ ability to create a relationship that lasts.

“His approach is different in that he looks at longevity in your fitness program, not a quick goal that you attain and go away,” Monge said. “Most of his clients he has had for no less than five years. I would say 80 percent of them he has had for the entire time we’ve been open. When he puts people on a program he’s keeping them.”

Carlos said his philosophy combines resistance training, flexibility and cardio all based on age-appropriate training. He has more than 30 years of experience as a personal trainer.

Monge previously worked in broadcast, first as an anchor on Fox 10 and then hosting “Sonoran Living Live.” She recently left TV to work with her husband at the studio, not as a trainer, but helping in child care and at the front desk.

“It’s a true family affair at Body by Design and we are embracing the possibilities of a locally owned and operated fresh, functional, modern training studio,” she said.

Body by Design offers free sessions to those willing to try them out. They also offer flexible payment options depending on the time of day a client comes in for a workout.
