Local First, Arizona’s annual summer campaign to encourage Arizonans to “go local” for a week is rapidly approaching. Independents Week, which is a national campaign, will shine the spotlight on locally owned, independent businesses July 1-7. The week-long celebration features a special “Golden Coupon” available on the Local First website, which is good for a 20 percent discount at participating businesses. Indie Week presents the perfect opportunity for Valley residents to visit any one of the many participating stores that they may not have otherwise known about or that they have wanted to try — all while spending locally and saving money.

Shoppers and diners can simply print the Golden Coupon from the LFA website and use it at participating businesses. A digital version of the Golden Coupon will also be available for smart phone users. A list of participating businesses is listed at

While Independents Week is a fun celebration, the larger message and goal is to create a ripple effect of local spending. By shifting even a small percentage of purchases to locally owned businesses, money is circulated back into the economy over and over creating up to 75 percent more tax revenue to the community and state.
