Ahwatukee Foothills resident Rachel Harris is not afraid to share what she has learned about raising kids and managing a busy lifestyle.

In fact, it's something she really enjoys.

Harris spent years doing a weekly segment on Channel 3's "Your Life A to Z" before some good friends encouraged her to put all of the information she was sharing in her segments into one place.

"It was just a group of really good gal pals that said to me, ‘You have got to start a website,'" Harris said. "They all loved my manic managed mom tips and the little things I'd present on the show. It was sort of a hodge-podge of real life all about managing life in a manic world... It took me about two years to decide I could give the energy to do it right, and to do it well. Finally, I got these girls together and said, OK, I'm going to do it."

Harris set up a domain, found a group of talented writers, and one year ago managedmoms.com was born.

"It's just a great website when it comes to sharing tips, recipes, beauty, and all kinds of stuff that really just helps streamline our lives," Harris said. "One thing I love about it is we cover a big range of topics. A lot of mom blogs are just about the kids, which is great, but what I love about mine is we cover a lot of parenting and we also do a lot for the moms."

Harris has eight contributing writers for her website, all of whom do the writing completely unpaid. There's a hair stylist, a professional make-up artist, a yoga expert, a Walgreens beauty consultant, a local teacher, her webmaster who is also a professional photographer, and the mother and daughter team who owns Pomegranate Café in Ahwatukee.

She also writes about three articles a week herself about whatever is going on in her life, whether it's a movie review, travel articles or just the craziness of being a mom.

"I have a lot of subscribers who aren't moms who enjoy it for the recipes and a lot of stuff with pets," Harris said. "I have other subscribers who really like the health and fitness section. I love when people read it and leave comments with their own tips. It's just a fun place to go to share tips on how to manage life in this manic world. We also try to write stuff that will put a smile on your face."

On top of the free tips and tricks Harris does Freebie Fridays for her subscribers. Each Friday her website randomly draws the name of one of her subscribers and they send them a free gift.

For now, Harris does not make any money off her website. She says someday if she found the right partner who wanted to sponsor it she'd enjoy that, but for now she's simply enjoying sharing.

"I've found it's really therapeutic," Harris said. "It's really good for women to write. Whether it's a journal or blogging, it just clears the mind. When I write something and someone comments and says, ‘Hey that really helped me,' or ‘Thanks for the tips,' that just makes it all come together and I just get so much from it myself. I'm not shy, and especially after becoming a mom, when I find something that works that I can do on a budget, that makes me feel good and healthy, I love when I can share that with a friend and they call me back and thank me and give me a tip of their own.

"It's that whole community of being friends together, and moms together, and getting the word out. Having this website is a great way to share a good referral or a movie review. It's a good resource for busy women."

Managedmoms.com will celebrate its one-year anniversary on March 3. For more information on the website visit, managedmoms.com.
