Ten years of doing business in Ahwatukee Foothills has taught the owners of Mountainside Wellness Center the importance of good customer service and keeping updated on all the techniques chiropractors might use.

Dr. Jazmin Torres and Dr. Scott Mettham met during biology class at chiropractic school in Georgia. Eventually, the two began dating and got married and moved to Miami. Mettham, having grown up in Scottsdale, eventually brought Torres to Ahwatukee, and the two decided to open their own practice in a community that seemed to be growing.

Since then, the two have gone from no clients to clients varying from professional athletes to weekend warriors and pediatrics to prenatal care. They say their oldest client is over 90, and their youngest is about two weeks old. Still, they've remained a very small staff with hours that allow them to spend time with their two children.

"We juggle," Jazmin said. "I think we have a good system. We try to multi-task and get people on or off therapy. We have multiple rooms and two massage therapists that help with patient flow."

Over the years they've gone paperless and added more techniques to their resume to help with the large variety of patients they receive. It's all about meeting the community's needs in the most efficient way possible.

"We credit our success to good customer service and getting people well," Scott said. "We consistently get people well and get them out of pain and we consistently offer a good product, which is more of a lifestyle change."

The biggest issue the chiropractors deal with is people not understanding chiropractic care. They compare it to an orthodontist putting braces on a patient. The braces don't come off the next day, it takes time to get everything back to where it needs to be.

"We go in and correct the problem instead of the symptom," Scott said. "Where as if you went to another provider they would say, ‘OK, you have an ear ache, let's put drops in it.' We look at what might be causing the ear to not function properly. It could be something in the spine not allowing the fluid to flow properly so we go in and make an adjustment."

As for the next 10 years, the two say they plan to keep learning, growing and building in Ahwatukee, at 4909 E. Chandler Blvd.

"We love the community," Jazmin said. "We're definitely rooted here and we're not planning on going anywhere."
