Gigi’s Cupcakes, a popular cupcake store from Nashville, Tenn., is making its way to the Phoenix market with its first location in Ahwatukee Foothills.

Gigi’s is known for its signature swirl of frosting and 10 to 12 different flavors of cupcakes baked fresh every morning. The recipes used go back generations. Since opening in 2008 the company has grown to more than 50 locations across the U.S.

Franchise owners Nadia Murphy and Geoff Bergauer worked in real estate for a few years before deciding they wanted to open a new business together. Bergauer owns a plastics company that was asked to design a plastic insert for Gigi’s to hold their cupcakes. Once he tried the cupcakes for himself it seemed like a good fit for Phoenix.

“We’re very happy to bring this great product to the Phoenix market,” Murphy said. “We think Ahwatukee is a great working community and there wasn’t any cupcake store around here so it should be a good addition to the neighbors.”

Murphy and Bergauer already have set plans for more locations to open in Phoenix in the coming weeks. The Ahwatukee Foothills location will be at 4910 E. Ray Road. They are planning on opening Sept. 21. For more information, visit gigiscupcakesusa.com or call (480) 940-3440.
