Ahwatukee Foothills resident Jean Moore says her online business sells art supplies and inspiration.

Altered Pages is all about altering a page in an artistic way. The website began as selling just collages of different photos that could be cut out and used for various products, but in a little more than a year after Moore took over she expanded to offering inks, rubber stamps, embellishments and more.

“Anyone can find some form of art to do from Altered Pages,” Moore said. “We sell kits that use stamps, metal, paper, ink and a huge variety of products. The kits come with full instructions so even the novice can open the package up and follow it step by step. They can walk away with a finished product even if they’ve never done it before.”

Moore bought the business in 2010, when she says she and her husband were transitioning toward retirement and she wanted a business she could leave as a legacy for her granddaughter. Moore had always been an artist and it’s something she says has run in her family through her daughter and now her granddaughter. Now Moore is sharing that love of art with others.

“I love art,” she said. “I love to see people gain that satisfaction of creating. I love to see that look on people’s faces. It’s just such a satisfying feeling.”

Moore works with a team of designers to provide her products to her customers. Each designer has their own style, which gives her customers more choices.

“Anyone of any skill can create something beautiful,” Moore said. “People so often are intimidated. I have friends who are fabulous artists in specific areas and it took me so long to figure out that that’s not my area. Everybody has their different talents. There are so many areas of art. Nothing is wrong. That’s the beautiful thing about art. To sit down and do one type and say ‘I’m no good at that’ is wrong.”

Moore has seen positive growth in just over a year and has won awards for excellence in marketing. The next step with her website will be a weekend art retreat happening this summer.

Moore has three instructors booked to teach classes and workshops at a Bed and Breakfast in Pine, Ariz., near the end of July. It will be an all inclusive weekend to get away and just focus on art.
