Just four years after opening, Secreto in Ahwatukee Foothills has closed.

A sign on the door said the landlord repossessed the property on May 27 as a “result of a default by Tenant under terms of the lease.”

The Mexican concept restaurant took over the old Havana Café location at 4232 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 24, in June 2010. In the short time the restaurant was open, it changed ownership almost annually.

Owners of the space didn’t lack experience. One of the first co-owners was married to the founder of Richardson’s, and in 2012, the restaurant was being managed by the same group as Caffe Boa. New menu and drink specials and even live music apparently didn’t drum up enough business to keep the place open.

The current owners gave no warning on the restaurant’s website or Facebook page about the closure.
