Recalls.gov a gold mine of consumer information

I know, for a lot of you, this may sound like watching paint dry or grass grow.

But sometimes, I like checking out government websites, like the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission. They’re packed with information about scams and other consumer issues.

But, my favorite government site might just be www.recalls.gov.

It lists all of the latest products, cars, even food and cosmetics that have hidden dangers or issues. It’s full of information to impress family and friends.

How about the Yamaha Big Bear ATVs?

These all-terrain vehicles sure do look like a good time.

Did you know with some models, the front shock absorbers can break apart and cause the driver to lose control?

It’s happened 14 times, thankfully no injuries.

And for those of you who don’t have a rock yard, read on.

That Kubota riding mower you may be using, well, bet you didn’t know 8,600 of them are being recalled because of a possible fuel tank leak that can cause a fire!

Not impressed? OK.

What if you’re having dinner and someone pulls out the Townsend Farms Organic Antioxidant Blend? You can yell, stop!

The 3-pound bags of fruit are being recalled because of a potential Hepatitis A contamination. The recall goes on to say the problem involves organic pomegranate seeds used in the blend. And they were imported from Turkey. Fascinating stuff.

Finally, if your new knowledge is still falling flat, try this one: Your laptop could give you a leg burn.

Yep, 5,100 replacement batteries for the Macbook Pro are being recalled because they can catch fire while charging.

There have been 13 reports of fire, including one of a serious burn on a consumer’s leg.

Well, I’ve done my part. Now, you must do yours.

Check out the recalls and you could possibly save a life.
