An Ahwatukee Foothills couple’s longtime dream to open their own restaurant focused on local goods will finally come true next month when Perfect Pear Bistro opens for business at Chandler Boulevard and Desert Foothills Parkway.
The Ahwatukee location was last occupied by WD Coffee Company and has been empty for some time. Laura and Chris Hove said they’ve been dreaming of opening their own restaurant for years and when they drove past and saw the space was available it just seemed right.
Laura grew up in Ahwatukee Foothills and met Chris when they were both helping with the opening of a Pei Wei in 2000. Together the couple has more than 30 years of experience in restaurant management and have been involved in several restaurant openings across the Valley. This will be their first time owning a place of their own.
The concept is somewhere between a Postino Wine Cafe and a Wild Flower Bread Company, said Chris. They’ll be open for lunch and dinner during the week and will have a menu for brunch on the weekends.
The menu includes several unique pastas and bruschettas as well as salads and sandwiches. The bistro will not have a bar, but there will be local wine and liquor options available.
“We think we’re a little different than restaurants that have been back here,” Laura said. “There tends to be a little bit more of a bar scene. We’re wanting to be more of a health-conscious restaurant here.”
The Hoves are attempting to use as much local product as possible. They’ve selected local artisan breads and cheeses for many of their recipes and are always looking for more local produce as well.
“We eat this food regularly,” Chris said. “Laura is vegetarian so commonly the food we eat is fresh and local. I enjoy playing with these flavors and using fresh seasonal stuff. We always eat like this so it has become natural for us.”
The restaurant has an expected opening date of Sept. 16.
