When Vincent Ceglia sold his salon in New Jersey and moved with his family to Ahwatukee Foothills, he had no intention of opening another salon, but when hair is all you’ve ever wanted to do it’s tough to stay away.

A promotion for his wife is what brought Ceglia to Ahwatukee. They purchased their home more than a year ago and he said he had no intention of opening another salon. He’d owned a large salon in New Jersey that did hair, nails, massages and even had an esthetician. New Jersey is one of a few states that does not allow salon owners to rent booths to individuals, so he managed every employee he had. Here he didn’t want the same, but decided to open a much smaller salon and try to rent chairs.

He found his space at 12020 S. Warner-Elliot Loop and took over in August. The space needed a lot of renovations but officially opened in December.

Once he had the location things continued to fall into place. Ceglia calls the women that work in his salon “angels from heaven.” As he was renovating the space they came to him, told him they were unhappy where they were working, and asked to rent space from him. It was a perfect fit.

Vincent has been doing hair since he was 17. He says he had a difficult time after high school breaking the news to his very traditional parents that he didn’t want to go to college and become a teacher. He only wanted to do hair.

“That’s all I ever wanted to do,” he said. “I still have the passion for it. I’m just as passionate about it as I was when I was 17 years old. It’s the creativity, the idea of making people pretty. It’s all about the client.

“I’ve found being in this industry for so many years and having so many people work for me, there are so many hair dressers that don’t listen to the client. I think that’s the most important part. Listen to the client. Understand what they want, and their needs. It’s not about me and my skills, it’s about the clients… That’s the recipe for a successful business.”
