Ariz. electronics customers getting quality merchandise for their money

Ever wondered if you truly got what you were paying for when it came to your electronics purchases? Well there is little need for Ahwatukee Foothills residents to fear. According to the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures (ADWM), people in Arizona get quality merchandise for their buck.

The ADWM conducted unannounced inspections from July 13 to 22, in 34 electronic stores across the state. These inspections checked for fair pricing.

“Pricing accuracy is paramount as businesses compete for customers,” said Shawn Marquez, director of compliance at the ADWM.

Arizona business owners apparently concur with Marquez’s assessment because a 99.6 percent compliance rating was achieved by stores selling electronics, during the week-long inspection.

Not only did stores typically perform well when it came to giving accurate prices, inspectors actually listed 36 individual items as underpriced. Ahwatukee was clear of any price gauging, according to the ADWM.

Inspected stores included The Apple Store, Best Buy, Office Max, Target and Fry’s Electronics, among others. The inspections were done across the state and not all stores were inspected.

“Competition is fierce in the Arizona marketplace and overcharging shoppers will result in customers shopping elsewhere, we are pleased with these results and encourage retailers to remain vigilant in their efforts to provide clear and concise prices to their customers,” Marquez said.
