The Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Initiative has awarded ICAN, a nonprofit based in the East Valley, the Neighborhood Builder award of $200,000. The award is given annually to two Phoenix nonprofits.

The award will go toward expanding youth and family programs that ICAN provides to the community at no cost. The programs are designed to prevent substance abuse, gang activity, and juvenile delinquency among at-risk youth. Each day more than 150 youth attend ICAN daily and more than 2,000 youth will participate yearly.

Bank of America has also been involved with ICAN in other ways, including providing 40 volunteers on a monthly basis to interact with the youth during ICAN's homework help and structured sports activities.
