Lifeguard training course begins this weekend at Ahwatukee center

If you have a child 15 years or older, consider signing them up for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course at the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center, 4700 E. Warner Road, on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 through March 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (must attend all four days).

The prerequisites for the 32-hour class include swimming 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order: 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke, 100 yards of either; treading water for two minutes using legs only; swimming 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke; surface diving to a depth of 7 to 10 feet; retrieving a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object.
