Just over one year after breaking ground, the new Vee Quiva Casino is set to open on July 2.
The old Vee Quiva Casino was built in 1995. While that may not be an old building it’s certainly an old casino, said Justin Sullivan, spokesperson for Gila River Gaming Enterprises. The new building has more square footage, an open concept feel, and a boutique 90-room hotel attached. It also has a false floor that allows operators to move machines with more ease for design purposes and also allows for greater air circulation throughout the entire building. The total project is expected to cost $135 million.
The new 70,000-square-foot casino has more than 950 new slot machines, 36 table games, 16 poker tables, four bars and a 550-seat bingo hall. The building will also house four well-known restaurants in the food court, a 24-hour coffee shop and Ditka’s Restaurant, the only one in Arizona.
Construction created more than 600 jobs. Once the casino is open it will provide more than 300 permanent positions.
The casino and hotel are all decorated with art from Gila River Indian Community members. Prices for rooms at the hotel have not yet been released.
The new facility is just down the road from the old casino, which is set to be demolished once the new casino is open.
The new Vee Quiva Casino will host a grand opening on Tuesday, July 2 with a ribbon cutting at 12:30 p.m.
