Bradley Carr knows the restaurant business.

The former freshmen football coach and one-time security guard at Mountain Pointe High School recently rekindled his passion for food with the opening of Ezekiel’s Restaurant, a home-style restaurant in Ahwatukee Foothills.

Located in the Basha’s plaza near 48th Street and Warner Road, the restaurant aims to bring quality and soul food to its customers.

With a simple menu, also available for take out, the Carrs offer chicken, fish, ribs and a variety of classics like baked macaroni, church rice, and collard greens.

“Everything is freshly made, and it’s home cooking.” said Carr. “We take pride in that.”

Carr’s wife, Laurita, specializes in cakes and some pies at the restaurant. Admitting she learned from watching her grandmother, Carr said the restaurant offers a signature sweet potato pie, peanut-butter chocolate cake and a strawberry cake for kids, among others.

The restaurant officially opened Sept. 1 and already has a few “regulars,” one, Carr mentioned, comes all the way from Scottsdale every week for the catfish.

Though fairly small, with a seating size of about 35, the restaurant aims to give customers a loving, comforting atmosphere “with royal treatment,” Carr added.

“When you open the door, you’re home,” he said.

Carr and Laurita previously owned the restaurant in Pennsylvania for more than 20 years before moving to Arizona in 2006.

After selling the East coast site, which was named Ezekiel’s Downtown, the Carrs moved out West and found a home in Ahwatukee.

Though Carr took a bit of a hiatus before reopening Ezekiel’s, he worked in a number of local food places like IHOP and Tropical Smoothie Cafe to “stay in the game,” while working at Mountain Pointe.

Eventually, the home-style food came back to him.

“Once you’re a restaurant person, you’re always a restaurant person,” Carr said.

Ezekiel’s Restaurant is located at 4825 E. Warner Road. For more information, call (480) 785-4886.
