Chick-fil-A is set to open an Ahwatukee Foothills location in April at Ray Road and 50th Street.
Ted Christy, who has been a Chick-fil-A franchisee for 22 years, said he’s been looking for a location in Ahwatukee for some time.
“I think it has a great demographic,” Christy said. “It has lots of businesses and lots of homes, it’s a great neighborhood.”
Christy said he chose to get involved with Chick-fil-A because he likes the company’s values. It’s those values he thinks will fit in well in Ahwatukee.
Christy and his wife, Laurie, own the Chick-fil-A on Stapley Drive in Mesa. The new location in Ahwatukee, at 5035 E. Ray Road, will be 700 square feet larger, all of which will go toward a larger kitchen. The new location will have a double drive-thru and space inside for 140 diners.
“We’re expecting it to be a very busy location,” Christy said.
The fast-food restaurant is expected to open on April 4. The first 100 guests in line will receive a free Chick-fil-A meal a week for a year and Christy said it’s a prize people come from all over to claim.
“I will warn you, people travel from all over the country to get in line,” he said. “They’ll be camping out a day in advance. It’s quite an event.”
The company will hire 75 full- and part-time employees before opening. There will be a hiring trailer on site beginning in March.
In the same shopping center the old Rock Bottom Brewery location still remains unfilled. NAI Horizon Senior Vice President Chris Gerow said that they are working with a possible tenant and expect to announce who it is in the next few weeks.
