Over three days more than 50 dogs made their way in and out of a house in north Phoenix as Ahwatukee Foothills resident Brad Jaffe filmed his complete at-home dog teaching system.

Jaffe has been training dogs across the Valley for 14 years. He said reaching more clients through an instructional video has always been a dream, but he wanted to be sure he had the right team behind him if he moved forward with his vision. He met his now artistic director, Jim Atkinson, when he helped train his puppy and the two hit it off.

Jaffe’s technique is unique because it is completely humane. He teaches that dogs don’t need to be dominated or controlled, they just need to learn the behaviors their owner expects of them. Now, Jaffe is putting all of his training into one complete set for anyone to use on their own to teach their dog at home. Jaffe estimates it will be a set of six or seven DVDs and a manual.

“The way we train is so unique that once people get it they love it so much,” Jaffe said. “But there’s only so much time in the day. We want to make it more accessible. I’ve been flown to Hawaii to train dogs, Michigan, Florida. This came about to get a complete at-home dog training method that uses these gentle methods available to whoever wants to use it.”

Filming took about a week. Jaffe expects the complete finished product, “Dogological Home Dog Teaching Program,” to be released this summer.

“I love dogs,” Jaffe said. “I feel there’s a great need that needs to be filled for people that want to teach their dogs using gentle methods and compassion. You don’t need to be an alpha to your dog. You don’t need to dominate your dogs. Dogs don’t need an alpha. They need a parent.”
