The city of Phoenix is partnering with the state of Arizona and other local cities to streamline the process for installing residential solar energy systems, cutting time and costs, utilizing $710,000 in funding through the U.S. Department of Energy's SunShot Initiative.

The Arizona Governor's Office of Energy Policy, which includes the cities of Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff, the state of Arizona, Arizona State University's Global Institute of Sustainability and SmartPower, will use the federal funding to create an easier, less expensive, and more consistent process for obtaining permits and installing solar panels on homes across the state.

The program also will increase access to financing to make solar energy possible for more homeowners.
