Not everyone finds their passion at a young age but that’s exactly what happened for Julie LaChance, owner of Another Bead Please in Ahwatukee Foothills.

“I just can’t explain it,” LaChance said. “I’ve done other things. I decided I was going to make belts or purses but that doesn’t last very long. It’s just been a passion that never got old or boring. I never got tired of it. There’s always a new skill to learn. You can take it so many places.”

LaChance has been making jewelry since she was young. She says family and friends gave her beads and trinkets as gifts because they knew she was artsy and slowly her passion developed. By the time she was in high school she was selling her jewelry to friends and in college she began finding boutiques and places like Nordstrom interested in her work.

“I got more refined as I went,” LaChance said. “I figured out how to market it. It started getting crazy. I decided to open up the bead stores and that started taking my energy.”

At one time LaChance had four bead stores in the Valley but when that became too much to handle she closed them and focused on just one location. Almost two years ago she moved that location to Ahwatukee. Now she’s finding more time to return to her main love, which is designing jewelry. The back of her shop located at 4025 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 7, has a wedding boutique of hair pieces and jewelry designed specifically for weddings.

“I love making beautiful things,” she said. “It’s the best feeling to create, out of a pile of odds and ends, something gorgeous. It’s a feeling of accomplishment. I believe everyone is good at something. This is my thing. I’m lucky. Some people search forever to find their thing.”

LaChance balances designing with running her store and raising two young boys. She says sometimes she stays in the store for hours past closing time just to get things in order but meditation and hot yoga help her stay positive. The fact that she owns her own store also helps. She’s able to surround herself with uplifting things and then share that positivity with the customers that come in.

“The world is crazy but I feel like I can create my own world,” LaChance said. “Everyone can do that. You can’t change what’s out there but you can change what you want to be in. You can make your world what you want it to be… People come in here all the time and tell me they are not creative. They can’t do this. You really can if you just let yourself tap into it. Open your mind up a little bit and don’t let it scare you. I help people do it all the time. I’ve seen people blossom. It’s pretty crazy.”
