After just three years of serving the Ahwatukee area with its Montessori approach, Inspire Kids Montessori is expanding into a bigger location at the end of July, offering the chance for more community involvement.

Inspire Kids, which currently enrolls about 70 toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners, will be celebrating a grand opening of its new location near 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard on July 27 as well as an open house.

The new 8,000-square-foot suite in the Safeway Plaza, gutted from inside for renovations, will give the school space for six classrooms, an expanded outdoor playground, and gardening space.

“Into our second year, we saw the pattern of growth,” said director Diana Darmawaskita. “I knew that we would outgrow the space quickly.”

With the decision to begin looking for a new space at the beginning of the past school year, Darmawaskita said the retail space was referred to her and plans for renovations started soon after. Inspire Kids is currently in a 6,000-square-foot corporate suite near 44th Street and Ray Road.

“It’s a nice addition,” Darmawaskita said. “Now we can involve the community and parents, it’s really neat if you have a big space.”

Taking the suite previously owned by the retail chain Tuesday Morning, the Montessori school will offer an all-natural log playground in addition to building an organic vegetable garden. Darmawaskita noted that a respect for the environment is another aspect of the Montessori approach, which also encourages individual creativity and academic achievement.

“The focus isn’t just the individual academic portion, but also emotional growth and being able to be responsible in the community,” she said. “And we are part of the community.”

A grand opening celebration and open house is planned for Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents and students will be able to tour the new facility as well as participate in games, craft projects and other activities.

Inspire Kids is accepting new students for enrollment at the new school site, 4025 E. Chandler Blvd., Suite 11.
