The Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber Commerce, which was founded in 1994 by a dedicated group of dynamic Ahwatukee business people, has been successful in creating a vibrant business community. Recently, the chamber announced it has established the Ahwatukee Chamber Community Foundation (ACCF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, as an additional component focusing on civic, social and educational programs and projects. The foundation was established in 2011 to further the chamber’s mission by engaging Ahwatukee residents and the community at large.
The ACCF seeks to provide the community with activities and events encompassing a wide area of interest with the goal to make the lives of the residents of Ahwatukee well rounded. These broad based activities are intended to assist in the areas of community interest and may include trainings and educating the public on matters of finance and business, science and technology, as well as area economic planning and development.
The ACCF slogan of “Building Community, Building Ahwatukee” reflects the foundation’s mission to develop, fund, and provide resources to the people of Ahwatukee by way of its events and activities, scholarships, and a future Entrepreneurial Institute. The ACCF will serve as a resource to inspire the next generation of local entrepreneurs to become leaders in the Ahwatukee community.
The ACCF’s first activity will be the 2012-2013 Ahwatukee Community Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship Fund. The program will help an Ahwatukee student reach his/her educational goals by providing a $5,000 scholarship that acknowledges entrepreneurial excellence.
The ACCF Entrepreneurial Scholarship Fund is for high schools seniors in Ahwatukee who are interested in applying for an achievement-based scholarship. This year, the scholarship is based on an area student taking a specific community-based project and developing a business plan. One finalist selected by a committee representing outstanding civic and business leaders in Ahwatukee business will be awarded $5,000. A letter of intent to apply for the scholarship is due by Dec. 15. The scholarship application and information are available from the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce.
The ACCF intends to fund and award this scholarship annually. Each year a specific project and objectives will be identified for newly graduating students. Our invaluable sponsors and donors are critical to maintaining our ongoing efforts. These funds will benefit our foundation’s effort to educate our business community and to offer educational events and programs to the children within our community.
The foundation will be used to increase desirability of the areas in which our businesses are and where the employees and families of these businesses work, live and play. The ACCF Board of Directors provides guidance and expert advice to the Foundation. All board members of the Foundation volunteer their time to attend meetings, fundraisers, and other events that further the goals of the Foundation and expand the organization’s community-based programs. Community members interested in serving on the foundation board should contact the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce for application information.
