I had the privilege of being one of the charter members of the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commence Women In Business group when it was started back in 2000. We were looking for a way to provide programs and opportunities in leadership, development and education as well as networking with new business in our community and creating lasting friendships. As our women’s group grew, so did the opportunities.
In 2005, the Palo Verde Award was created to honor women chosen as a role model for others, an outstanding businesswoman in our community. The award was named for the state tree of Arizona because of the likeness it holds to a strong, flexible businesswoman.
With each passing year, we grow stronger, our arms reach further and our availability to adapt to the winds of change made the Palo Verde tree the perfect choice. This award is designed to identify and celebrate outstanding business women in our chamber and community.
In 2010, the award presentation was moved to coincide with the Chambers Annual Gala event held the first weekend in November. This years Gala will be at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort and Spa on Saturday, Nov. 3, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The evening includes dinner, dancing and a silent auction. The top 10 finalists will be honored and the winner of the Palo Verde Award announced and celebrated.
Palo Verde Award winners are known for their passion to serve, desire to succeed and their ability to manage. The deadline for the nominations to be turned into the chamber is Sept. 30. So don’t wait, send your nominations to us today. Just being nominated is a great honor and being one of the 10 finalists is so much fun. I have had the privilege of being nominated and chosen as one of the 10 finalist and experienced all the excitement that goes with it.
