The Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce thanks the many volunteers who assisted us in putting together this year’s Red, White and Boom fireworks celebration. These volunteers give up their family time for the good of the community, and we are grateful for their help! Presented by Vision Community Management at the Ahwatukee Country Club, the Chamber is proud to continue this 39-year Ahwatukee tradition.
Red, White and Boom has had dust storms roll through in the past, as was shown by the thousands of people who held on through the storm expecting it to pass. Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to put on her own show this year. The lingering dust storm followed by the thunderstorms and lightning forced the cancellation of not only Ahwatukee’s fireworks, but several others throughout the Valley.
Planning Red, White and Boom takes most of the year and includes a lengthy process for a one-day special event permit. The coordination with the city of Phoenix, Police and Fire Departments, the state of Arizona, the Ahwatukee Country Club, Fireworks Productions of Arizona, vendors, entertainment, volunteers, etc., does not allow us the opportunity to reschedule the event due to a weather cancellation. The Red, White and Boom committee and our production company, HDE Agency, prepared a great festival and we always appreciate the hard work they put into this community event.
Prior to the storm, this year’s entertainment included live music from Daisy Train with guest emcee Auntie Pi’i of iAloha Radio. The kids enjoyed an expanded water and activity zone, which included a zip line, to play in and stay cool in our summer heat. The festive attendees who came through the gate enjoyed a wide range of tasty treats and specialty products from more than 50 vendors.
We thank our sponsors, local businesses, clubs and individuals whose donations made the fireworks display possible. The Ahwatukee Foothills News is always very supportive in advertising and promoting this annual event, and we thank them. We are part of a great community that has such a strong cooperative spirit and continually supports local activities.
Red, White and Boom provides us a chance to get connected with all of our community residents to celebrate our great country and the freedoms we all enjoy. We look forward to working with the community and all involved to continue this great Independence Day tradition. We’ll be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Red, White and Boom on July 3, 2015, and we look forward to seeing you there.
