The Ahwatukee Foothills lawmaker sponsoring stalled legislation on financing for a new spring training complex in Mesa for the Chicago Cubs says he wants more time — a year — to work it out.
House Majority Leader John McComish said Thursday said the Cubs and Mesa should extend into 2011 the deadline for a detailed financing plan.
The original idea for surcharges on all Arizona spring training game tickets and on Phoenix-area auto rentals drew stiff opposition, and McComish says he and other lawmakers are "running out of time" to come up with alternatives.
The Legislature’s 2010 regular session is expected to end in several weeks.
McComish says another complication is that other cities with spring training sites want their needs to be take into consideration.
