Police arrested a 26-year-old Ahwatukee Foothills man Tuesday as he sat in his pickup writing an armed robbery note outside the Walgreens at 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard.
The case is still under investigation, but police said they believe the suspect is the same man who last month robbed a Walgreens at Elliot Road and 48th Street of oxycodone, telling the clerk he had a gun.
On Tuesday when officers arrived at the Walgreens, “they found the gentleman sitting in his gray 2006 Nissan pickup truck writing an armed robbery note with a Sharpie,” said Sgt. Frank Matsko.
According to police reports, the note said: ‘Give me all your oxycodone.’
A clerk at that Walgreens called police after recognizing the suspect from a surveillance photo of the earlier robbery suspect.
“The young man was wearing the exact same outfit as in the last robbery,” Matsko said.
Donald Joseph Siete was taken into custody without a struggle and booked into jail on suspicion of armed robbery.
Matsko gave credit to the clerk who recognized the suspect and the officers who quickly responded.
“It was a team effort,” Matsko said.
“The eyes and ears of the community are what helps us.”
