The Ahwatukee Foothills Village Planning Committee meets Monday night at the Pecos Park Community Center, and topping the agenda is an update on a planned senior living facility across from Mountain Pointe High School at Knox Road and 44th Street.

Originally envisioned as a 140-unit senior retirement center with independent and assisted living units, plus a special area for seniors suffering with memory loss, the 2008 plan was for a three-story, 130,000-square-foot building.

The project has been on hold for more than two years, and while developers now plan to move ahead, it will be without an associated mini-medical campus that was originally planned to complement the retirement facility.

The change will require an amendment to the Silver Creek Planned Community District.

Committee members were generally positive about the original plan, pointing out that Ahwatukee Foothills, which started as a retirement development, has few living options for seniors who need assistance.

Also on the agenda is a presentation of the results of the first two General Plan Update sessions.

Originally envisioned as something that would happen in conjunction with Village Planning Committee meetings, planning staff is now looking at other ways to accomplish the required updates, while also saving money but maximizing public input.

The 6 p.m. Village Planning Committee meeting is open to the public and is in the senior center at Pecos Community Park, 17101 S. 48th St.
