The first day of winter storms has snarled traffic across the state.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a dust storm north of Casa Grande resulted in a massive pileup on Interstate 10 around mile post 190. There are numerous injured, three dead and at least one truck "exploded" and was burning. I-10 is expected to be closed in both directions for hours.

In the west, also on I-10, dust and high winds have reduced visibility from milepost 70 towards Phoenix. The DPS is urging motorists to reduce speeds and use extreme caution when traveling on I-10 to or from California.

In the north, a winter storm is dumping snow on I-40 near Williams. One injury collision has been reported and the freeway is closed in both directions around Williams.

For up-to-date information, visit or dial 511 for Arizona freeway conditions.
