After a quiet few months, police responded Thursday to a bank robbery at the Bank of America branch inside Fry’s Marketplace at 3949 E. Chandler Blvd.

It was the first bank robbery since June, but the 11th in just over a year.

According to Lt. Mark Tallman, the suspect walked into the supermarket and approached the bank teller around 5 p.m. After getting an undisclosed amount of cash ”The suspect calmly walked out of the store. He was last seen leaving the area in a taxi cab.”

Witnesses say the man was a white male, in his mid-30’s, around 5-foot, 6-inches tall, bald, clean shaven with blue eyes. He was wearing a dark T-shirt under a dark shirt. He may also have some type of a European accent.

No weapon was seen and no one was injured in the robbery.

The robbery breaks a quiet spell after a long string of robberies that plagued Ahwatukee Foothills banks, including one failed attempt in January where the suspect fired a shot that hit a vehicle in front of the Desert School Federal Credit Union in the 4900 block of East Ray Road.

Anyone with any information on Thursday’s bank robbery is asked to call Crime Stop at (602) 262-6151.
