When Willie Sutton was asked why he robbed banks, he is supposed to have said, "Because that's where the money is."

Apparently he isn't the only one who believes that.

On Tuesday a man walked into the Desert Schools Federal Credit Union branch in the 4900 block of Ray Road, handed over a note and walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to Phoenix Police Officer Rick Tamburo, no one was injured and the man fled east on foot.

Police are still searching for the suspect.

It was the third robbery or attempted robbery at that credit union branch, the second in Ahwatukee Foothills in less than a week and the sixth in the last six months.

The latest suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 35 years old, with a goatee, wearing shorts and a baseball cap, the same description as the man who robbed a Bank of America branch Feb. 20 at 51st Street and Elliot Road.

Other robberies or attempted robberies include:

* Jan. 23: Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, where a courier servicing the ATM in front of the credit union was confronted by a would-be armed robber. No one was injured, but at least one shot was fired. The would-be robber fled empty-handed after being struck by the courier vehicle.

* Jan. 12: the same federal credit union was robbed.

* Dec. 29, 2008: Wells Fargo Bank branch on 51st Street north of Elliot Road was robbed.

* Sept. 10: Arizona Federal Credit Union at 48th Street and Chandler Boulevard was robbed.

Anyone with infromation is asked to call CrimeStop, at (602) 262-6151.
