The Ahwatukee Swim and Tennis Center has many options to help beat the heat this summer by jumping into the pool.

The 2013 “Tidal Waves” Summer Recreational Swim Team is for kids ages 6 to 18. Tidal Waves will help kids learn and enjoy the sport of swimming. The goal of the team is to help all swimmers become proficient in all four strokes and learn good workout habits.

All new swimmers must go through an evaluation process in order to participate. Evaluations will be held on Saturday, April 6 and 13. To schedule an appointment, call (480) 893-3431. Pre-season Saturday practices begin May 4. The season runs June 3 through July 24.

Tidal Waves is different from the year-round swim team that holds practices at the Swim and Tennis Center, Sun Devil Aquatics.

The Ahwatukee Swim and Tennis Center also has classes for kids and adults to learn to swim. Babies as young as 6 months can take a Parent and Tot swim class. There, parents will learn techniques and positions to enhance their child’s comfort level in the water.

At the age of 3 kids can begin a Level 1 Water Discovery class at the Swim and Tennis Center. Kids will learn skills to feel comfortable in the water including breath control, fully submerged head, supported floating and kicking on front and back.

Once children have completed Level 1 they can move on to Level 2, which teaches primary skills. The Swim and Tennis Center has five levels of classes for kids through 8 years old.

The cost is $35 per session for Levels 1 through 5 and $25 for the Parent/Tot class. Each session includes four lessons. Summer kids lessons will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays. There’s a variety of times and sessions available beginning in June. For a complete list, visit ahwatukeehoa.com.

The center also has swim lessons for adults who could use a little more comfort in the water. Adult classes will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. For more information or to sign up, visit ahwatukeehoa.com.

The Ahwatukee Swim and Tennis Center is located at 4700 E. Warner Road. For additional information, call (480) 893-3431 or (480) 893-1942.
