This summer “Cinderella,” “High School Musical” and “Legally Blonde” will all be making their way to the main stage at Ahwatukee Children’s Theatre (ACT).
ACT will host three age-specific camps in June and two in July.
Beginning on June 10 and July 8 kids in kindergarten through fourth grade can join the cast of “Cinderella Jr.” and fourth- through ninth-grade kids can be in “High School Musical.”
Teens from ninth grade through 19 years of age can participate in “Legally Blonde” in June.
“Cinderella” will run June 10-25 and again from July 8-19. Shows will be June 25 and 26 for Session 1 and July 20 for Session 2.
Practices will run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
Last year, ACT combined all ages into a stage production of “Cinderella.” Many of the younger kids in the show were given parts as mice or animals.
Dedicating an entire “Cinderella” show to the younger kids this summer will give them a chance to play larger roles, said Michele Rubino founder and executive director of ACT.
There is a production fee of $350 for “Cinderella.”
Slightly older kids, fourth through ninth grades, will put on “High School Musical.” Practices will run June 10-27 and again July 8-25, Monday through Friday, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Shows will be June 28-29 for Session 1 and July 26-27 for Session 2.
Auditions for “High School Musical” will be on Friday, June 7 at 5 p.m. All who are registered will get a part. There is a production fee of $425 for “High School Musical.”
Teens from ninth grade through age 19 will have a chance to participate in “Legally Blonde,” which will run June 3-14, Monday through Friday, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Auditions will be held Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m. The show will be on June 15. There is a production fee of $375.
A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required for all camps at registration. The balance is due on or before the first day of camp. Tickets for all shows are $16 and available at www.seatyourself.biz.
Vocal camp is also available for all ages in July. From July 22-26, 9 a.m. to noon, students will be taught basic to advanced singing and performing technique and learn about breathing, presentation, theory, auditioning and more. There is a production fee of $150 for vocal camp.
