For those looking to keep the kids active this summer the Ahwatukee Board of Management has your one-stop shopping.
It will host its annual Golf, Swim and Tennis Camp for kids ages 6 to 12 years old at the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center, 4700 E. Warner Road, all summer.
It’s an opportunity to give young athletes a chance to be introduced — or reaffirm the skills they’ve already learned — to several sports at once.
“It’s a great chance to have a nice variety of activities at one time,” said Susan Hyden, director of the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center. “A lot of the campers use the camp as a stepping stone to taking lessons here after finding out how much they like one sport or the other.”
The camps will be conducted in four-day increments (Monday through Thursday) every week starting June 2-5 through July 28-31, with the exception of the first week of July.
The cost is $194 ($25 for a swim day on Friday) and the camp will be from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Campers will bring their own lunch, but snacks, juice and drinks will be available for purchase at the center. Afternoon snacks and drinks will be provided by the center.
Camp activities include instruction in golf and tennis in a non-competitive environment with an emphasis on recreation to allow each child to participate at his or her own level.
Golf instruction will be given by the golf professionals at the Ahwatukee Country Club, who will provide campers with clubs or they may bring their own.
Tennis instruction will consist of basic fundamentals to enhance the student’s understanding of the game. The first half of class will consist of instruction and the second half will be designed to let students enjoy instructional games so they learn to love the game.
Camp swimming is designed as a fun, recreational time for the kids.
The center also offers individual tennis and swim lessons year-round.
There are two summer recreational swim teams (6 to 12 year olds) and a new program for (13 to 18 year olds).
The goal for all Tidal Wave swimmers is to become proficient in all four strokes and learn sound workout habits. Pre-season Saturday practices will begin on May 3. The regular season is June 2–July 25.
