New for this year’s summer options in the Kyrene School District is After Hours, an age-appropriate program for middle school students.

After Hours will take place at Centennial Middle School, 13808 S. 36th St. Students will participate in physical activities and have the opportunity for field trips to a variety of places around the Phoenix-metro area such as Arizona State University, laser tag and more.

“They will have a lot of time to have fun and socialize,” Jen Wetzel, program supervisor, said. “It’s all participant-driven and it works to the interests of the kids.”

Parents have the option to send their kids five times per week for $135 or three times per week for $90. There is also the option for students who are enrolled in Summer Academy. They can participate in After Hours before and after Summer Academy, which is Monday through Thursday for $260 per month or a full day on Friday for $360.

“There aren’t a whole lot of options out there for middle-schoolers,” Wetzel said. “They will have a fun, safe place to be for the summer.”

After Hours and Kyrene Kids Club, which is for elementary students, will be from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. five days per week.

Kyrene is offering a wide range of classes for Summer Academy. Students can take one to four classes like Creative Writing, Extreme Math and Space Exploration. Elementary school students can take classes at Kyrene de la Colina, 13612 S. 36th St., and Kyrene de las Manitas, 1201 W. Courtney Lane in Tempe, and middle school students will attend Centennial Middle School. The first session of Summer Academy is from June 6 through 30 and the second is July 5 to 21. Parents can choose from four- or seven-week long classes taught by certified Kyrene teachers.

Prices on Summer Academy classes vary. To find out more or to register, visit www.Kyrene,org/eservices.
