What is happening with this doctor license at this point. He took someone very dear to many many people by prescriping drugs that should not have been prescribed. My dear grandson who loved life and all it had to offer. Its close to a year and several of us can't move forward from this man's neglect! His brother is in a deep depresion and none of us are able to help him because he misses his brother so.

The fact that Dr, Sweet lost his medical license, his medical practice and basically his livelihood all because one or two of his patients made stupid decisions and did not take their prescriptions as prescribed, is a travesty! Instead of blaming the doctor, when does patient responsibility come into play? When do families and "friends" step up to the plate and intervene? It's not as if Dr. Sweet held his patient's mouths open and poured the pills down their throats! Life is about choices and if drug addicts choose to doctor shop and lie about pain to get drugs then they deserve what happens to them! I feel badly for Dr. Sweet and his family, They are the true victims here, due to the lies and stupidity of other people!

katjazzlover - Perfect summation of the truth regarding the Arizona Medical Board revoking Dr. Sweet's license for his compassion. Notice the Board never even gave this man a chance to change the way he practices medicine. No Doctor is perfect and no doubt Sweet would have made changes had the Board effectively communicated with him verses making an example out of him. The actions taken against Sweet were hostile and damaging not just to Sweet but to the community. Ten years of college training (most readers don’t have the brains to pull this off) and another 13 or more of medical practice. I don’t think people realize how often good people are wronged by supposedly well intended systems of government. Sweet was one of the best doctors I have ever had and his compassion to help relieve others with genuine pain in the end contributed to the Boards actions against him. Sweet is not the "doctor/human being" he was made out to be by the Medical Board. This man’s career was taken away from him because he was conned by people intent on breaking the law to take medications they don’t need. He also had a lot of pain patients and were all left behind to find another doctor to manager their pain: collateral damage, right, not the Boards problem (another sign of hostility and insensitivity and in this case towards patients dependent on Dr. Sweets treatment). Non pain patients don’t realize how very difficult it is to find a doctor that will treat them for pain. Another group of docs that are now in Sweets office tell you walking in the front door they do not prescribe pain medication. At least they are honest about it but after what happened to Sweet, they are clearly paranoid and I for one would not support a practice that is so paranoid they deny humans the right to be properly medically treated for pain using the established medications designed to treat pain. Most pain patients are acute and don’t need these meds long term. Pain meds are relatively safe when used responsibly. It’s obvious Dr. Sweet made a couple mistakes, but this kind of punishment is draconian and very typical I have noticed of government agencies in general. The Board is not perfect and the decision to take Dr. Sweet down is a good example of their imperfections. People who don’t have chronic pain don’t understand how much tolerance people build up to requiring they take what would be deadly to someone who does not have a tolerance. All pain doctors have patients that need these powerful meds. Doctor Sweet informs his patients what they are getting into and he does what he can to direct them to alternative methods of treatment. So he misfiled a few documents? You don’t think there is another Dr. office in town that does not misfile every now and then? Even if Dr. Sweets office did make a few office mistakes, destroying a career like this, without at a minimum offering him legitimate help to him get the documentation side of the practice in order, is draconian. His note taking was no different than 50% of the doctors out there practicing today.

After reading the comments below I felt compelled to comment regarding this 'physician'. I believe somewhere in the Hippocratic oath it states "first do no harm". The fact that there are not one, but multiple patients of this so called physician that have died because of his over prescription of narcotics is proof that he needed to lose his license. Did he put the drugs in their mouths, no. But his patients relied on his professional advice to take the meds they were prescribed. He is a family medicine physician NOT A PAIN specialist. I blame this man in part for the death of my beautiful daughter. She was someone who never had an issue with drug/alcohol addiction until she became this man's patient. She relied on him to give her advice and tailor a plan of care to manage her pain and health issues, HE FAILED HER, as well as his other DEAD patients. To those of you whom protect him and think he is wonderful, you have been duped. My only wish is that he serve jail time, the loss of his livelihood is not enough. My family and I am sure the other families who have lost their loved ones can never be sympathetic to his loss, money is nothing compared to our loss. I am a healthcare professional and understand the comments that patients have to be responsible for their own health, but to the lay person, they entrusted their care to the professional, where is our responsibility as healthcare professionals to our patients?

I WAS BLIND

ENOUGH ALREADY. I WAS BLINDED BY MY BOSS......YES I WORKED FOR DR. SWEET FOR YEARS. EVERYTIME ANY STAFF MEMBER SAID ANYTHING TO HIM ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF MEDS HE GAVE OUT OT THAT PATIENTS WERE LIEING TO HIM ABOUT THERE PAIN HISTORY HIS ONLY REPLY WAS "I'M THE DOCTOR NOT YOU" AND DID WHAT EVER HE WANTED. THE MORE CASH THE PATIENTS PAID THE MORE PAIN MEDS THEY GOT. STOP STICKING UP FOR THIS MAN. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. HE PAID THE STAFF TO KEEP THINGS TO THEM SELFS. RECORDS WERE FORGED ETC.

I, personally, never had any issues with Dr. Sweet. I have chronic pain, and he helped me. My beef is with his inappropriate and unprofessional office manager. They were always losing files. Then I noticed office manager picked up an attitude toward me. I really don't know why. I always pain, was never late, and I lauded at her ignorant jokes; like holding on to my change and saying "Thank you for the tip!" My last appointment with Dr. Sweet was for a refill of my pain meds. She brought out a letter, after waiting for a couple hours, a letter she so obviously just finished typing, outlining that I was no longer a patient. I was in shock. I hung around and talked to patients who made it in before me, and they told me what they had heard Ofc. Mgr. say to Dr. Sweet in a very loud, moody voice. She told my doctor a bunch of lies. Really, what doctor is not going to back up their manager? I was excused without my refill. Do any of you know what it's like to just suddenly stop taking pain meds that you've been taking for a couple hours?! I gotta say, my doctor broke my heart. He didn't believe in me, wouldn't even talk to me. He was hiding behind the very tight skirt of his amazon office manager. I kinda got the impression she was pleasuring Dr. Sweet orally. Like I said, she was so unprofessional. I think she used to be a bartender.
