Juno Smalley, executive and discipleship pastor, surveys Pecos Road from the hill behind Mountain Park Community Church, at 24th Street and Pecos Road in Ahwatukee Foothills, on Wednesday. The church would be demolished to make way for a planned extension of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway if the state decides to move forward with putting the route along Pecos Road.

The members and leaders of Mountain Park have always known that they were in the pathway for a future freeway. It is a wonderful church at a great location. However, in the early plans for the freeway, the state saved a location in the area, closer to I-10 for Mountain Park to relocate the church. There was some talk of making a trade or purchase from/with the reservation south of Pecos. Have the leaders decided against that location?
