The 26th Annual Ensynch Stair Climb and Firefighter Challenge broke the record last September by raising over $90,000 for cystic fibrosis research - 50 percent more than expected. Cystic fibrosis is called the No. 1 life-shortening disease of children and young adults in the U.S. Attendees of last year's event participated in the nation's only dual stair climb and watched firefighter teams from across the Valley compete in five different events. There were three separate divisions: Combat, Sport and Female. The winners in each category are as follows: • Combat Division: 1st Place - Phoenix Fire Department: Dave Baumgartner, Adam Tieman and Danny Gile; 2nd Place - Chandler Fire Department: Chris Estes, Jeff Detzel and Casey Johnston; 3rd Place - Phoenix Fire Department: Dustin Lucchesi, Aaron Klika and Nando Carizoza. • Sport Division: 1st Place - Phoenix Fire Department: Carl Johnson, Brandon Underwood and Jeff Thompson; 2nd Place - Phoenix Fire Department: Carl Lemke, Brian Blatnick and Greg Hawk; 3rd Place - Tempe Fire Department: Kevin Bailey, Mike Scheidt and Mike Makay. • Female Division: 1st Place - Phoenix Fire Department: Cyndy Mullenix, Cory Dunnington and Megan Tranter; 2nd Place - Phoenix Fire Department: Shannon Gorjonac, Nicole Minnick and Ardell Deliz. Next year's event will be held Sept. 15. Those interested in participating or attending can visit www.cffaz.org.
