LET'S EAT: Haru Sushi hosts grand opening, $5 sake bomb
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Low prices, conveyor belt set restaurant apart
At Haru Sushi, your food is brought by your table before you even order.
The dishes are placed on a revolving conveyor belt, and guests can pick and choose which plates they would like as they pass in front of them.
The cost per plate is also much lower than that of its competitors.
Much of the restaurant's Nigiri, or hand-formed sushi, costs about $2.25 per plate, and includes, maguro (tuna), sake (salmon), shrimp, scallops, fresh water eel and octopus. Other specialty rolls include the California rolls and spicy tuna rolls, which cost $1.75 per plate, the dragon, caterpillar, Las Vegas and rainbow rolls, which cost $3.25 per plate.
"You'll be surprised when you see the revolving sushi, and you'll be surprised when you get the bill," Sushi Chef Isaac Lee said.
Owner John Chon has spent 20 years in the sushi business. As part of his business model, he keeps his prices low, because he believes his patrons will eat more sushi and will come more often.
"It may take a while," Chon says, "but when people know we have the best prices and they don't have to compromise quality, people's sushi habits will adjust. I have built the lowest-priced quality sushi."
The combination of low prices and the conveyor belt concept makes Haru Sushi a quick and affordable place to eat lunch.
To ensure freshness, the restaurant discards all of the plates that have been sitting on the conveyor belts each hour, based on a system of colored stickers.
Also, if a customer is really craving a specific dish not found on the conveyor belt, the sushi chefs can make anything to order.
To celebrate the restaurant's grand opening, Haru Sushi, located at 9845 S. Priest Drive, will feature $5 sake bombers in the evenings.
