Pecos pool opens Friday

Ahwatukee Foothills News

Despite budget shortfalls that will result in a shorter swimming season and some Phoenix swimming pools remaining closed this summer, the pool at Pecos Park will open on schedule at 1 p.m. Friday, May 22.

The pool will be open for Memorial Day weekend, then reopen May 30 for the regular summer season that runs until July 26.

The pool will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. every day except Fridays.

Because of the budget crunch, admissions have doubled to $3 for adults and $1 for children 17 and under and seniors over age 50. The hours and length of the season are also shorter than in the past.

The aquatics center at Pecos Park opened in 2003 and offers free swimming, diving and swim classes for beginners through experts.

Healthcare reform
In a final push for a sweeping healthcare overhaul, President Barack Obama urged a simple "up-or-down" vote on the legislation. What would your vote be?
Up! Let's get this thing passed already!
The proposals look good on paper, but I'm still hesitant about its execution.
Down. It's time to go back to the drawing board.
